Matariki-Mu Torere

Last Thursday for Matariki we had shared lunch and then did activities to support Matariki. Tom and I did Nogo's activity of Mu Torere which is a Maori chess game where you try and block your opponent from moving. The names I learnt from the game were putahi(centre), kawai(outside) perepere(counters).

It is a very easy game to learn but you need to think ahead 2-3 moves.

I am finding that Matariki is becoming popular each year and I hope that there is a National holiday because of it.

  2. Tino pai! I love this game too because this reminded me of how me and tristan used to play this. I like how you talked about matariki as well and i too think it should be a national holiday. Maybe you could take a video for next time so you could show others how to play? - Montana
